changing

this morning townes and webb were sitting on our bed as i was trying to get ready for the day.
webb looked at me and said "mommy, you are a princess."
i feel tears welling up inside me as i type the words.
he said it in his sweet little voice that i often overlook while trying to accomplish
whatever mundane task i'm trying to, well accomplish.

it made me stop in my tracks.
this is what it's all about.
all too often, way too often ... i plow through the day trying to survive.
this little moment was what it's all about.

as i'm typing this webb is supposed to be asleep.
i just heard a loud noise coming from the bathroom.
he was scooting his step stool, putting his potty seat on the toilet and pushing down his pull up all by himself.
it's the first time that he hasn't come running to me saying "mommy, i need to potty".

i went into the den so i could peak around the corner and see how it would end ...
he walked back into his dark bedroom and closed the door.
there's no pull up on the floor in the bathroom.
he pulled it up all by himself.
he didn't need me.

all the things i constantly wish away ... they're passing and i suddenly don't want them to.
i'm thankful for seeing it and be given the gift of trying to change.

motherhood.
i never knew how hard (and emotional) it would be!
