the cleanse

it was this post from gwyneth paltrow's blog GOOP that got me thinking about a cleanse.
there are three types of clean programs that dr. alejandro junger's discusses.
a 21 day cleanse, a 21 day elimination diet, and a 3 day mini cleanse.

i wanted to start small. so the mini 3 day cleanse sounds a bit more ideal.
we'll (casey's doing it with me) be drinking liquid meals for breakfast and a solid meal for lunch and dinner.
recipes are provided and there is a forum you can sign up to be a part of to get meal ideas.

so here's what we can't eat:
oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, grapes, bananas
dairy and eggs
wheat, barley, spelt, kamut, rye, couscous, oats
raw fish, pork, beef, veal, sausage, cold cuts, hot dogs, shellfish
soybean products
peanuts, peanut butter, macadamia nuts, pistachios
corn, creamed veggies, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, peppers
butter, margarine, shortening, canola oil, salad dressings, mayo
alcohol, coffee, soft drinks
refined sugars, honey, maple syrup, high fructose corn syrup, evaporated cane juice
chocolate, ketchup, relish, chutney, soy sauce, bbq sauce, other condiments

now you know why i need to start with just the 3 day cleanse :)

here's what we can eat:
whole fruits
nut milks (never had these before!)
brown rice, millet, quinoa, buckwheat
cold-water fish like salmon, trout, wild game, lean lamb, chicken and turkey
lentils, legumes, beans, split peas
walnuts, sesame, pumpkin, sunflower, hazelnuts, pecans, almonds, cashews, nut butters
fresh veggies
coconut oil and various nut oils
green tea, herbal tea, mineral or seltzer water, yerba mate
brown rice syrup, stevia, coconut sugar
vinegar, all spices, sea salt, ...

  1. Good for you! I did Dr. Gittleman's 11 day detox a few months back and it was amazing, I felt SO great. If you warm up to it you should try it. I am thinking about doing it every couple of months. Hang in there, it is worth it!
