weekend away

weekend before this past one was mine and casey's first time away from the boys since townes was born.

it was a 48 hour trip to charleston for a wedding of some family friends from chattanooga.

perfect destination for a getaway, right?

we got there friday late afternoon, put on our "snappy casual" attire and found our way to the rehearsal dinner.

it was in mount pleasant at this beautiful club house sitting on the water.

the food was "lowcountry" and to die for.

as you probably could imagine i gave in to all the cheese and all the dessert.

i've worked hard on staying away from dairy and soy for townes and needed a break.

shrimp and grits, wedding cake ...  i couldn't resist!

saturday morning we got up and wandered the streets of charleston.

we went up and down meeting and king streets, ventured through the market and down to the water.

we went on a carriage ride of downtown and got a better understanding of what the city was all about.

i had no idea there was so much interesting history.

i'm sure i did at one point, but it definitely had left my brain.

the tour guide was a quick talker and though i couldn't comprehend much, i'm a bit slow these days ... i got the gist.

we took a rickshaw to the harbor and had lunch.

we had lots of laughs with one of my brother's good friends and his wife who were also in town for the wedding.

the weekend wasn't as relaxing and laid back as we had envisioned.

before we knew it, it was time for the wedding.

i hardly had time to go shopping!

between the tour, walking, eating and the pumping ... our day was full.

i don't love to talk about breastfeeding, but i will tell you traveling and doing what i did (pumping that is) was not ideal.

i'm glad i didn't realize all that before the trip!

the wedding was absolutely beautiful and so was the reception.

we had a great time sitting outside, people watching and dancing the night away.

we probably had a little too much fun ... 

but what can you expect for parents that don't get away often?

sunday morning we somehow managed to get into husk for brunch without a reservation.

this is the "it" restaurant in charleston right now and it was so so SO good!

 

 naturally, casey ordered the pig ear lettuce wraps ...

 
... while i got fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and ham

then casey got the monte cristo which was made with pulled pork and topped with an egg ...

... and i got shrimp and grits one last time.

these were kinda gumbo style and were also topped with an egg, which casey had to quickly remove.

before we left sunday afternoon we strolled the streets some more and picked up a few souvenirs.
i feel in love with the cobblestone streets.

the trees

and more trees

and charleston.

we've decided we have to go back and next time rent a car to see it all.
what a great place to visit and a great time away for just the two of us.
if it only could have lasted just a little bit longer!
