911 ... really?

i'll set the scene.
it's 9:10 a.m. and i've loaded webb in the car.
he hasn't been loving his car seat lately so he's holding my keys.
webb's fastened in his car seat ... check
diaper bag, purse, and bible for bible study are in the car ... check
just need to run in and grab my water and we're off to church.

i close webb's door and the passenger door, where i always set my things,
walk towards the house and see the scariest thing i may have ever seen.
the tail lights flash.

yep, webb has locked himself in the car.

i stood stunned at the back door having no idea what to do.
my eyes start to well up with tears.
my cell phone is in the car with boo, and no, we don't have a spare key.

my brain immediately raced back to a conversation i had with casey earlier this morning.
he was leaving for work, had placed his new ginourmous work cell phone (i've forgotten to mention that he got a new job!) in his pocket and looked at me all confused wondering what he should do with his "old" cell phone.
he said he usually leaves it in the car half the time anyways, so i told him to leave it at home.
i'd let him know if someone called.

now that is what i call a God thing if i've ever seen one!

i tried casey and couldn't get a hold of him, then i called regan, and then allison.
i couldn't get anyone on the phone and needed someone to tell me what to do!
all i could think about was how i didn't want some freak locksmith at my house breaking my child out of my car.
so i went to the better business bureau website.

i mean, is that what you would do if your 16 month old was locked in the car?? hardly!
the first one i called said it would take 25 minutes to get to me.
praise Jesus regan called me back and said he would start calling around to other locksmith.
then he found out ... call 911! really?? did i really not know to do that??
i think of all those ads "is this really an emergency?" if not, hang up.

yes, it was an emergency, but thankfully webb was strapped into his carseat and it was 60 degrees outside.
God is on my side! (to quote one of my favorite songs)

as the story goes ...
not 1, not 2, but 3 policemen arrived within 5 minutes and they waited with me until their locksmith decided to show. between that time we shared lots of stories about the joys of parenting, they explained their strategy for how they would break into my car had it been 90 degrees outside, and allison, my sister-in-law, stopped by to give me a much needed hug.

all in all i would say the boo was a prisoner of the lexus for 45 minutes.
he did pretty good with a few outbursts.
the first 20 minutes i tried to convince him to click the unlock button.
he was chewing away on that clicker but he never would bite down on that one button ...

when i emailed my dad earlier to tell him what happened, his response:
"well nancy! like mother, like daughter"

i have to admit, it made me smile.

the pumpkin patch and a mummy

we tried out a new pumpkin patch this year thanks to a friends recommendation.
it was the cutest little place!
it's called walden farms.

webb saw all kinds of animals he'd never seen before, and he called them all dixie of course!

casey and webb in the corn maze

i was attempting to be a professional photog in this one ...

webb is going through a not so pleasant stage these days.
he's not always a happy camper.
i think john bradford felt sorry for him!

... so we had to resort to the paci!

later in the afternoon we went to a halloween themed birthday party up the street.
a couple of weeks back my motivate me monday was to make webb a halloween costume.
i got a bit discouraged when i began purchasing supplies for the spider "webb" costume i was planning on making.
the goal was to make a costume and spend less money, not double!
so this is what i came up with.

a mummy!
or as casey liked to call him "the ninja mummy"
he was a hit at the party.
i was just excited that people were able to tell what he was.
since he's still holding out his arms to balance when he walks, it was the perfect costume.
and it only cost about 15 bucks to make.

this is my absolute favorite picture!
i can't get enough of that face!

it was a charm

webb finally got his first haircut last week.
it looks really cute from afar :)
i had a bit of haircut remorse most of last week, but i've gotten over it.
he really looks like a little boy now, and a lot more like casey for sure!

he definitely wasn't the happiest camper!

no more baby mullet!
the only way they could cut it was if i held him.
this separation thing is really kicking in full force these days ...

the after shot.
what a face!
everyone is always talking about his facial expressions.
i'm trying to figure out where he gets them??

looks pretty good!

mums and moccasins

i've told you about my yellow mums in the front, but didn't mention that i bought some huge ones for the back patio.
i think casey was a little stunned when i told him how much i paid for them. and i thought they were a deal!

after he gave me his response, i told him "but they're going to make us so happy". ha!

i can't wait for them to bloom. they're that pretty purpley burgundy color.
i always buy the yellow ones, so it's exciting to have a little change.

webb and i got out the wheel barrel and got to planting.

i'm going to attempt to get his haircut again today.
third times a charm?

doing the frankenstein.
yesterday when he got home from school he was a walking fool.
either he was highly encouraged or trying to impress somebody!

a random daddy and boo moment from last night ..
i'm obsessed with webb's new moccasins from hanna andersson.
they keep his little toes so warm and i love hearing him swish around the house.

here he comes!

i was finally able to video webb walking!
i'm going to go ahead and apologize for my redneckness.
yes, i call my son bubba, and no, i have no explanation why.

a photo shoot

a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine thought it would be fun to do a little photo shoot of our kiddos in their diapers.
but i'm not talking just any ole diapers ... the huggies jean diapers!

thankfully will's mom is a talented photographer.
thanks lauren!

webb, will, max, and ann wilson

after looking at these pictures i realized two things about webb:

1) i now know why he's always the shorty in the group. check out those short little legs!
2) this kid needs a haircut. i tried twice last week and he just wasn't having it. i tried!

it's football time in tennessee!

about once a year i get to relive one of my favorite memories from my childhood.
tennessee football!

ever since i can remember my family has had season tickets to the ut home games.
everytime i walk into neyland stadium a rush of memories come flooding into my mind.

i think of how i never watched the games because all i was focused on was the cheerleaders.
how regan and i would count how many cuss words we'd hear from our neighboring fans.
how we always missed kickoff and always left with 3 minutes left in the game.
can't get stuck in knoxville game day traffic!

yesterday i got to relive all those memories.
it's the best to do it with my brother ... cause we remember all the same funny things.

while in big orange country, i tried to get the boo a hooded tennesse sweatshirt.
it was soooo cute!
but casey wasn't having it.

little does he know that if we ever have a little girl,
i've got the perfect cheerleading outfit in our attic that i know she'll look adorable in!

i may be an ole miss fan, but it sure is hard to resist good ole rocky top!

so where was webb while we were having so much fun?
playing with his new friend ruthie!
webb has been around little dogs most of his life.
reg and al have dixie, which i know you've seen a picture of that cutie,
and my dad and mitsy have gracie the pug.
webb's met a couple of big dogs and wasn't too much of a fan.
... and then there was ruthie!

thanks to my sweet friend alice, who lives in knoxville,
she entertained webb while we were at the game and introduced him to his new favorite friend.
it was such a blessing to know webb was in such great hands!

the willamette valley

ah, the pinot noir grape

there were a number of reasons why we decided to go to portland for our first trip away from webb.
one of the main reasons being we've always wanted to go to the wine country and we love pinot noir.
but not just any pinot noir. it's gotta be from oregon.
though we never really had a favorite winery ... we do now!

our first stop -
rex hill, owned by a to z, which i love!
we learned that 2008 was a great year for pinot noir in oregon.
i had an instant flashback to being in publix in pc beach when i was young.
my parents had just come back from the their first trip to the wine country
and my mom kept saying '94 was a good year.
"honey, look for bottles with '94 on them."
it makes me laugh to think about cause she was such a hoot.

who knew a trip to the bathroom could be so inspiring.
at archery summit.

one of the many gorgeous views

i had to include this one ... i'm telling you i was amazed by how green this place was!

mmm .... adelsheim pinot gris.
i don't usually drink pinot grigio much, it goes back to my junior year of college
... i'll just leave it at that.

this one is so good, so affordable.
you should try it!

our picnic lunch at adelsheim of yummy cheeses and meats

the professional taster at penner ash
their syrah, riesling, and red table wine "rubeo" are all fabulous and at great price points.

the hand on hip pose ... everyone's doing it!
have you noticed?

the last and best vineyard ... soter vineyards
this wine and vineyard was like a dream.
i've never heard of this wine ... though i never buy in this price point!

we tasted wine in this beautiful barn at a long wooden table with two other couples.
it was very intimate and very surreal.
it was like the wine country meets montana.
i could have stayed out there and never come back.
the highlights were the brut rose and mineral springs pinot noir.
they were out of control.

and we brought each of them home with us for a VERY special occasion!

i would go back in a heartbeat and stay a little longer ..

portland

i've decided to start at the end of our trip, because for me it was really the beginning.
i'll admit, i kinda had a tough time being away from home.
don't get me wrong, the trip was definitely great and a much needed vacation.
i would say about 24 hours into our trip i realized that i've become so accustomed to having webb with me all the time and staying so busy, that i had a hard time relaxing ... and well, just being.

our last day in portland was the best day ... my most favorite day.
i guess you would say it was when i was able to totally let go.

early sunday morning, (i say early b/c we woke up at 5:30am portland time every, yes, every morning), we rented a car and drove to the oregon coast. casey had driven along 101 many years ago and wanted for me to see the beauty of the pacific. beautiful it was and pretty chilly too. about 55 degrees and overcast when we got there. but by noon it had turned around and was mid 70s and sunny. it was perfect.

haystack rock at cannon beach, oregon
look familiar??
if you grew up in the 80s, you'd remember it as the first clue that led the goonies to the treasure.
okay, i didn't really remember that, but casey loves some goonies!

the beach homes here were amazing.
this was one of my favorites.

and then there was this ...
pictures hardly do it justice.

after the our trip to the coast, we jumped back in our subaru (as you can imagine it is the car of choice out there) and headed back to portland to get ready for the main reason i decided we should take this trip in the first place.
to see the national.
our hotel was the one right behind the stage.

after the show

the best meal on our trip.
clyde common
to. die. for.
all local, all fresh, all amazing!
even the band was there after the show.
and if you are into people watching, seriously, this was the best i've ever seen.

casey drinking a "heavy petting"
... the drink names were pretty creative let me tell ya.

and for dessert ... voodoo doughnuts
a very famous doughnut shop that's gotten all kinds of press.
yes, that is a man with a cat on his shoulder standing at the entrance.
the place was totally eccentric!

the most popular doughnuts:
the bacon maple doughnut
(casey thought it was a good idea sunday night, but not so much monday morning)

... and the portland cream.

back to the hotel.
happy, full, and carefree ... finally!

the blink of an eye

we're back from our trip to portland and i can't wait to tell you all about it. it may take me some time cause i've got lots of catching up to do on cleaning, grocery, but especially loving on my little boo!

before i get to our trip, i've got to tell you that webb went to school last week! it was so fun for him and so fun for me! his first day was the day before we left for portland so i got a heck of a lot done in 5 hours. i feel so blessed that he's getting to do mother's day out. it wasn't really something we had planned on, but fortunately have been able to make it work.

casey had taken some extra time off work last week so he even got to go with me to take drop webb off and pick him up. it'll be such a great memory!

here we go ....
webb's checking out the new playground

some nice man asked if we wanted a picture of us all ... i love kind people!

so why did i title this post "the blink of an eye"?? we'll i've got some news folks ...
WEBB IS WALKING!!!

4 days away and my little boy has grown up!
i can't believe it.

vicki and jimmy showed us his new trick last night when we got home.
right now he's only doing it if he goes from one person to another.
but he's definitely walking.

my reaction when i saw it??
i cried and laughed.

everytime he hits a milestone i'm so overjoyed because it reminds me how far we have come.
Praise Jesus!!

the weekend

saturday mornings have taken on a whole new meaning since webb has gotten older.
this morning we took him for a ride around the neighborhood in his radio wagon that he got from his grandparents.

and then he got to do what he loves to do the most ...

sit next to the garden and watch his "dada" work. he's never more content!

hope you have a happy, relaxing weekend!
